featuring Singer-Songwriter "Mimi Durango"

Do you like salsa? We're not talking the dance craze either! We're talking about the hot, savory chili peppers, the fresh tomatoes, and all of the spices that come together for a wonderful taste that keeps you coming back for more! If you do, you will love the music of Sister Sister Y Los Misters. Their roots are American but their soul is Latino. Their music is a mixed-bag of flavors and colors with jazzy influenences mixed with the sultry soul of their Latino heritage. It's their "Latin-Soul-With-A-Twist" kind of music that keeps the juices flowing, your body moving...swaying to their style of music. Their musical showcase is an invigorating, bi-cultural, musical experience for all to share! It's passionate, sultry, entertaining and loads of fun! When the night is really caliente...their soulful Latino blues come out to play. What a show!! Grab ahold of your seat and hold on!!!

Mimi Durango, (real name Melinda Hernandez), is the songwriter and lead vocalist of the band. Growing up in Houston's East End, a barrio known as Magnolia, she grew up listening to all genres of music both in English and Spanish. Coming from a musical family this would later encourage her to the stage. From 1983 to 1986 she was the only female vocalist for the famous Tejano Crooner/Grammy Award winner, Little Joe of the legendary Little Joe y La Familia Band. Not wanting to sing "copy" tunes she began writing her own compositions and envisioned playing and performing them. After several years on the road with Little Joe, she decided to form her own band. To test the waters she formed a trio with a girlfriend and her sister Patricia and called themselves "The Jammin' Muchachas", the female version of the famous Texas Tornados. As more songwriting came, so did the change in music. This would lead them to take the next step and in 1990 they formed Sister Sister. Sister Sister's debut CD, "Little Bit Of Texas, Little Bit Of Mexico" was released in January 2001 and was nominated for the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards. In May 2001 Ms. Durango was elected by a jury of her peers to serve on the Board of Governors with the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences/NARAS, for the 2001-2003 term. She has lent her talent for translating songs from English to Spanish to such super-stars as Reba and even a short one-liner for Brooks and Dunn. She has done back-up vocals for country legend Johnny Rodriguez and Tejano Grammy Award winner Bob Gallarza. Lately, when not performing with the full band you can find Mimi performing solo and singing "Canciones" that she grew up listening to as a child. Filled with such heartfelt, soulful, sultry, emotional and yes, invigorating feeling, all of her corazon goes into performing this style of music as she leaves you breathless and wanting more! Fans old and new have often compared her to Linda Ronstadt, a comparison she finds amusing since she grew up listening to her music and was fasinated in discovering that Ms. Ronstadt was of Mexican descent and could sing in Spanish.

Nancy "Thibideaux" Saenz is the other half of Sister Sister. A graduate of Forest Brook High School, an all black school is where she credits her bluesy-jazzy skills and ability of playing her horns. Soprano & alto sax and the flute become a part of her existence when she blows. She will amaze and entertain you!

Los Misters create the rest of the music for Sister Sister. Brothers, uncles, and close family friends combine the unique bond that drives this band. Some of these guys even have titles too hard to ignore!
