Unbelievable talent on the music scene lately....my problem has been to find the perfect blend of live band, food, atmosphere, and relaxation......

What's in Sherlocks' Cabinets???

I think they stash every cover band that is playing in the tri-city area on their shelves when we go home......I have seen the good the bad and the ugly show up on the Sherlock's Scene....although the necessary evils we must all wade through to get to good music is the "booking agent"....uggghhh.... I do however feel that overall Sherlock's books good quality musicians, that aim to entertain and please the crowd....

My favorite place in Sugarland: THE BAKERSTREET PUB, in Town Center....of course.....Great Management, Good Food, and lots of friendly people to hang out with.....I love to go back and will continue to patron this pub for a very long time!!

My favorite place on the Northwest side of town is Woody's Pub: Wow they are fun, and two exciting stages to hang out in front of.....although I didn't sample the food, the staff was super friendly, management was great and they treated me real nice.....they also have great taste in bands.....While I enjoyed friends and atmosphere I was entertained by the wiles of Slap Dash Band, a great coverband worthy of the trip out.

Ok...Ok, I know what your thinking....what about original bands playing original music....I have seen some up and commer's in that area too, here's the short list:

Stalking Chloe
Pranxter
D.E.M.O
Seraphim
House of Moist

Check out these bands!

Previous Articles: Red Hat Sightings, at three different local hotspots in Rice Village Friday Night March 3, 2006. Laydee Lane

It's not everyday I can leave my home in a red sequin Cowboy hat and blend in with a crowd in Rice Village. Ok, well I didn't actually blend I stood out some, but nonetheless, my Red Hat and I went to check out the local life of bands playing around in the quaint Village area. I began my quest with a band playing at the Brian O'Neills on Morningside Drive.

Band was awesome, hats off the O'Neills for hiring real musicians. The aesthetics of the place weren't too much for my liking. I am not sure if it was because they take all your chairs away in the main room by 9PM and there is no where comfortably to stand; or, was it after the room began to fill to capacity I just didn't get the whole scene. I say either be a place that can accommodate a crowd for a performance or be a pub, just a pub. Don't try to be both. But Hey, there seemed to be a lot of young local yokels that quite enjoyed that atmosphere and maybe some of the pretension in the room starts to wear down when everyone starts getting rubbed together by the squeezing of the room being filled to capacity, who knows. Whatever it is it seems work for them. A Very successful establishment, great band, and at least one red hat sighting there for 2006.

I then moved on directly across the street to the Baker's Street Pub, thank God, food. I was wondering if anyone served food anymore by this point. A little more laid back atmosphere, again in my theory of "if you are a pub, then be a pub"...played true to me for this place. A very small setup, but wired well for a one man show on the Conga and a bouquet of other noisemakers filled the room with colorful ambience. Service was great, and it was quite an enjoyable atmosphere in a pretentious sort of way. I was entertained by three seemingly harmless gentlemen who actually restored my faith that the nice guys are still out there, even in Rice Village, WOW.

This article is progressive moving from Good, Better, and on to Best. Which brings me to my final destination. The Big Easy.....now that's what I'm talking about, a place to sit, stand, dance, play pool....I could actually walk across the room without feeling accosted. More than enough characters sprinkled in the mix of diversity that kept my people watching skills sharp. The Band was Awesome, even the acoustics seemed to play out well for a room that might be challenging in the audio engineering department. I liked the diversity this spot seemed to offer. Laid back and friendly. I would say go and check it out. Cause you know, everyone loves the Blues, don't they?

So in summary next time you are out and the music is good, look around you might experience a Red Hat sighting. Don't be shy just come on over and say Hi, of course it probably won't be me, but you never know...until next time.
