Galveston, TX, – Karen Derr & Associates Realty will host Texas City artist Louis Gleason at the Galveston Arts Center's popular ArtWalk on April 28. Gleason will be showcasing his unique and primitive expressionistic charcoal drawings on wooden panels titled Wallpaper Series; a cross between sketchbook style drawings and old time circus posters. Gleason says that he's long been fascinated with old billboards and circus advertisements that remain as testament to the event long after its passing. "I see the characters in these drawings as very much the performers - the acrobats, clowns, animals, ringmasters, etc. - in a sort of circus, the weatherbeaten and mop-glued ad for which occupies a wall on the edge of some subconscious old downtown," says Gleason.

As an "other walls" ArtWalk venue, Karen Derr & Associates will host a reception for Gleason from 6 p.m. To 9 p.m. At their office housed in an 1876 historic home that's listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Galveston Arts Center has produced ArtWalk on Saturday nights in the heart of the historic district for over 18 years. One of the Galveston Arts Center's largest programs, ArtWalk, promotes visual art and artists, offers alternative places to see and learn about art and hopes to bring newcomers, as well as welcome return visitors to the art community on the island. A total of seventeen galleries and venues will participate this year.
