A Tribal Holiday

Print

Dear members of all tribes:

Happy Holidays! And that includes Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Solstice, Yule or whatever you enjoy celebrating at this time of the year.

This week, the Tribe Report will be a little different. It will be quite short. That's my gift to you all this week.

On Dec. 11, I was clobbered by a flu-like ailment which has rendered me basically useless since that time. In fact, I actually think I know who I caught my case of this from I won't name her name. So, I only got into Houston once -- on Friday, Dec. 15. The rest of the time, I have been lying around my apartment coughing, aching and wheezing. I understand that Michelle Macy and Michael-Ann Belin have also been suffering similar ailments. I might even be the one responsible for Michael-Ann's bout with this crud. On one of my worst days, Michael-Ann made some homemade chicken soup and brought it over to me. Then, within a day, she came down with the same ailment. Sorry, Mikie!

Anyway, on Friday, Dec. 15, I went to see my painting in the Houston Municipal Arts Commission exhibit at Houston City Hall. I found it on the second floor, in a meeting room just to the left of the City Council Chambers. There is excellent art on display at this exhibition. If you have art in this exhibit, and haven't been to view it yet, and would like to know where it is, e-mail me and I'll let you know. A nice guard gave me her copy of the list showing where everyone's art is.

So, that's it. That's the extent of my past 10 days' travels.

In next week's Tribe Report, which I probably will post on Dec. 26, I'll cover what's coming up in January and 2006. Some of these events that I'll cover in more detail include the "Passion" Show at Studio Gallery on Jan. 28 and "Ancient Language" at Sippora on Jan. 21. If anyone else (Gus? Wayne? Winter Street? Gallery 19? Lawndale?) is also having a show in January, send me the details before Sunday and I'll try to include your event too.

Well, it's time to take my medicine and climb back into bed now.

So, dear friends, fellow artists, thermoregulators, art patrons, gallery folks and all of those who support all of our artistic efforts -- I wish you a safe and happy holiday.

Until then, keep creating art, viewing art, buying art and supporting your fellow artists of all tribes.
