Tribe ReportMartin de Vore ![]() Be careful what you ask for.... Print03/29/06 Wow! Overlord Mitch, I am honored that you devoted a paragraph (inserted into The Tribe Report, no less!) to my alleged abduction by chocolate-craving entities. But what would Wonka (Laura Hodges) say about you slandering her Oompah Loompahs like that? Okay, I get the point. I have been gone awhile. We all need time off. Mine just happened to be the entire month of March. I will still be scarce for another week or two until I finish moving into town but then...I'll be back with a vengeance. I promise. In the last week, I did manage to get to see Marie Weichman, Mitch and Carolyn Cohen, Dwight Bullock, Ricardo Gonzales, John Mercado, Kara Frank, Michael-Ann Belin and Capt. Gordy Tillman, Charity and Tim Snider and Sorange Castillo so they can attest to the fact that I still walk the earth. Since I no longer have Internet or phone service at home, you all will have to make do with close encounters of the third kind until I rejoin the modern age (which shouldn't be that long). In the meantime, here are a few items of interest.... Linda Joyce Renz at The Studio Gallery On Friday, March 31, at 7 p.m., if you are looking for a good way to spend your Friday evening, I recommend that you head over to The Studio Gallery for the opening reception for Linda Joyce Renz - Watercolors and Mixed Media works. The art will be excellent, the victuals, viands and libations will be superb, the conversation will be sparkling and you can scratch Chloe while she patrols for food offerings that have mysteriously appeared on the floor. Marie Weichman's receptions and shows are always good. I have never been disappointed yet at one of her events. Neither will you. The Studio Gallery is located at 613 1/2 W. 19th Street, Suite A (behind Heights Glass). For more information, call (713) 869-2551 or e-mail Marie Weichman at marieweichman@sbcglobal.net Yale Street Arts Market This Saturday, April 1, I, and many other fellow tribe members, will join Overlord Mich Cohen at the Yale Street Arts Market at 548 West 19th Street on the Wind Water Gallery parking lot. I don't know how long I will be there but I will be making an appearance. See you there. Thermy, bring extra water. Mitch, bring Shipley's and coffee. I'll bring an easel and some itty bitty canvases and paints. The rest of you bring your smiles, money, good stories, etc. To learn more about the Yale Street Arts Market or Overlord Mitch's other imperial projects, visit the Web site at www.yalestreetmarket.com Wayne's World Well, it is time. Wayne Gilbert will be opening his new G Gallery at 301 W. 11th Street. That is in the same building with Redbud Gallery and Texas Print Collaborative Studio. (Personally, Wayne, I still think that you should have stuck with your originally proposed name of The G Spot.) G Gallery's first show is supposed to open on Saturday, April 1. I will post Wayne's new contact info as soon as I get it. (Remember, I've been gone for a month!) ZOLAR Saturday, April 8, is Z Day at Sippora. Z is for ZOLAR. ZOLAR has a zinc mine, a zeppelin factory, a house in Zanzibar, a pocket full of Zantac and a zoo filled with zebra. Zounds! ZOLAR's worth zillions! Then, the government zoomed in like Zorro and zapped ZOLAR with taxes. Zilch! ZOLAR's worth zero! (Couldn't resist, Amy! Sorry.) As always, this should be an interesting show since it's at Sippora, home of Amy Meyers' creative visions. I have seen a few of Tim Snider's pieces that will probably be in this show and they are quite interesting! I think you all will enjoy it. Anyway, here's the official scoop.... On Saturday, April 8, mark your calendars for "ZOLAR: Interpretation of Dreams and Visions" opens featuring the work of: Tim D. Snider, Missy Gentile, David Dubois, Regina Sherman, and Sat Kartar S.K. Khalsa. Sippora Gallery is located at 234 West Gray, between Montrose and Downtown Houston. For more information, call Amy at (713) 520-1085 or visit the Web site at www.sippora.com Coda Remember, I am not Cassandra of Troy so if you have a show or event coming up that you want me to mention you have to send it to me at my NEW e-mail address that I currently check from work or the library or friends' houses. So, e-mail me at: mldevore@gmail.com That's it for now. Until then, keep creating art, viewing art, buying art and supporting your fellow artists of all tribes. Martin L. de Vore is an artist and journalist living in Humble, but about to move to Houston. Mr. de Vore is a member of the Artists At Large and Post-Diversionist tribes and is really about to enjoy life very much, once he moves. |
