Mitch Notes Archive, April 26, 2006![]() April 26th Okay okay! I'm kinda back! Went to Huey Long's 102 birthday party last night and had a blast! All the sponsors, M2 Gallery, Venus, Mandy & Philip of Earth Gallery and a long list of others went all out for this. If I didn't know any better I'd say that the older you get, the wilder the party. Huey had his own paparazzi when he arrived in a white stretch (and I mean stretch!) limo. His barbers chair from Venus Hair was setup and the birthday cake was the biggest I have ever seen. I'd guess there were easily 400 people in attendance and it was crowded from the time I got there at 5:45 till late. Our Yale Street Arts Market was one of the sponsors, so I got to go early. Thought, you know, the early birds get to shake Huey's hand. Wrong! Just way to many well wishers. Sheila Jackson Lee phoned in and proclaimed yesterday "Huey Long 102 Happy Day" from the floor of the U.S. Congress. That was a hoot. Happy Birthday Huey! If you would like to meet Mr. Long, drop by Venus Hair on 19th Street any Saturday. He's always there, selling his CD's and telling stories. 361 West 19th. www.venushairhouston.com/ The Chronicle had a great story about Mr. Long in Sunday's paper. Susan put it up on her site with photos too. Here it is: http://www.venushairhouston.com/huey.html Mitch writes about his travels throughout the vast neighborhood known as the Houston Heights...and beyond! |
