Charity Auction Requests

  • PR Tip for your artist members: Charity Auction Requests

When you get a request for a silent auction item, provide more than the artwork.

Provide the following:

  • a document of authenticity -- even for prints if they are numbered
  • a folder/press kit about the artist; bio; photo; contact and news releases or article copies
  • provide an acrylic holder for photo of you and the piece or to hold your brochures/cards
you won't get it back but it is a small investment for the opportunity to stand out
  • offer to do the artwork for their program cover or place cards
then give them the original to auction in the live auction
  • offer an original, more expensive piece and tell them you will donate all proceeds
after the base cost of the piece for their LIVE auction. You will also be
there to meet the winning bidder if they want (and provide you a ticket or tell
you what time the live auction begins). Example: your cost: $1000. They sell it
for $3000. The charity makes $2000. This works well for live auctions.
  • send out a press release about your participation (at any level) and donation to the
charity and the facts about the charity event
  • ask if you can contact everyone who bid on the piece (silent auction) in addition to
       the winning bidder
  • write a thank you note to organizer and let them know any interest you have for future
participation or support of their cause

Just an idea that might help maximize their participation. Artists are such generous people and charity functions are a great way to get noticed.
