Max Boyd Harrison

Mitch asked me to write something about myself so here goes. I have lived in Texas from the age of two and think of myself as a native. My interest in art began early in life while visiting my Grandmother Martha Harrison, (Granna) an artist herself. Granna never pushed me into being creative, she just let me play with her tools or draw a picture of my own while she worked.

Art is something I thought of as enjoyment and not as a means of making a living. I worked for the man for most of my first 15 years out of school. I moved to New Orleans in the 80's and found art could be a means of making a living. While in "The Big Easy" I met and worked with very interesting individuals on countless projects and never seemed to tire of the endless nights and infinite pressures of deadlines. I owe many thanks to the people and places in and around such a wonderful city.

I moved back to Texas in the late 80's and began focusing on my art. I entered show after show, being rejected by many, getting mention in some and placing in others. My mother became very ill so I devoted my time to her care and in doing so I learned that self-sacrifice is a gift we give to ourselves. My mother passed but not before she made me promise to go back to school and earn a degree.
