John Mercado Fine Art

As a second-generation artist, I have been painting all my life. I specialize in landscapes and abstract paintings. Although my landscapes contain realistic subject matter they do not evoke a sense of realism but reveal a sense of contemporary serenity. The expressive qualities of my work are conveyed through the application of color and play of light. Multiple layers of cool and warm translucent colors are used to express a sense of solidarity between the integrated elements.

My work takes on a contemporary impressionistic and abstract perspective. Warm analogous colors are used in the sky to create a sense of calmness. The contrasting colors covering the ground are very vibrant conveying intense movement. Together they bring a sense of balance and serenity.

Cool translucent colors are used to generate shadows and depth, while warm opaque tones are used to create a sense of illumination through out the work. Vibrant colors upon a subdued palette give off a level of contrast that evokes a fantasy like setting within the realistic subject matter. The play of light becomes the primary focal point in my landscapes conveying a mystical presence.
