The only condition to post something is to relate it to the subject of any of the blogs. The goal for this blog is to increase interest and talk about the benefits of art for individuals and society. So that is a key element to add for the comment to be published. Apparently the Houston Chronicle blogs are very popular, # 1 in the nation: See article: The Best Blogging Newspapers in the U.S. Thanks, Lorena Lorena Fernandez The ESCAPE Center was recently renovated internally (added new rooms, new walls, new sheetrock, fresh paint) and the blank walls are screaming for some local art to adorn them. Since I have been involved in the art community for a while, the director of ESCAPE asked me to help her in her search for artists that would be willing to donate a piece or two to the center. (within the asterisk lines below is a description of the ESCAPE Center, copied from the website, http://www.escapefrc.org/) The hope and intent is to find permanent donations with a positive image/impression and vibrant colors; if possible, we would like to receive pieces that relate to children in some way (be it theme, imagery, colors, or in a literal sense children); that would be ideal although not a restriction. We are looking for: paintings of all mediums, photography (photos of happy children would be good), and sculpture. Actually, run any form and medium by me and we may be able to use it. There is room for maybe 10-20 pieces of work without crowding the space toooo much. The benefit to you: some of your messages indicated that you hadn't heard of ESCAPE before; though the general public may not be familiar with the Center, Houston's philanthropic community is very aware of the organization. Thus, donors tour the facility on a somewhat regular basis and this could be an opportunity for you to gain visibility in that community. Additionally, the donated items can be a tax write-off for you 2006 income tax. If you have further questions, please feel free to call me; and those of you that wanted me to come by your gallery, let me know when is good for you and we can coordinate schedules. Thanks for your interest in participating. Sincerely, Darren Earthtones by d.p.Etlinger From the ESCAPE website:Educating families in crisis to prevent child abuse and neglect. ESCAPE Family Resource Center was founded by local chapters of the National Exchange Club in 1983 as part of its national project to prevent child abuse. ESCAPE delivers educational classes to prevent child abuse and neglect in vulnerable families in the Houston area, Fort Bend, Montgomery and Brazoria Counties. During 2004, ESCAPE delivered 166 programs, which taught 5,200 parents and children how to live together safely and supportively. ESCAPE programs are unique for being: Family focused They address the needs of both parents and children. Convenient to Families They are offered in central locations and in neighborhoods where the need is greatest. Collaborative They are delivered in partnership with other service agencies that serve vulnerable families. |
